Leggy fan dancers flirt with a flourish. A swirl of pasties knocks all eyeballs agog. And brass-plated beats raise the barometric pressure beyond the bounds of millibars. It’s Orchestre L’Pow!
Burlesque ain’t just pulling off clothes. It’s the talented girl who can tease and titillate and seduce an audience with artistry, and it’s the talented band who can back her moves with the quiver and the shimmy and the shake-what-yo-mama-gave-ya. That band is Orchestre L’Pow! which reigns as the premier burlesque pit band performing on the West Coast.
Emerging from the heart of Seattle’s burgeoning burlesque scene, Orchestre L’Pow! has delivered pasty-twirling tunes for some of the most enticing members of the region’s Neo-Burlesque and Alt-Tease troupes, including the Heavenly Spies, Atomic Bombshells, the Glam-O-Rama Girly Show and members of Portland's Rose City Shimmy. Orchestre L'Pow! has performed with such notable burlesque performers as Jo Weldon, Julie Atlas Muz, Burgundy Brixx and Bettina May, and also featured in the burlesque documentary "A Wink and a Smile".
Founded in 2004 by veteran drummer Dain Hudson, appearing under his nom du burlesque, “Frank Lovejoi, Master of the Big Beat,” Orchestre L’Pow! melds the talents of Nick “Big Daddy” O’Donnell (Guitar), Sean the Bassman (Upright Bass), Ralph Huntley (Keyboards), Scott Johnston (Saxophone) and Joe Haegele (Drums) into a back-alley union of Cabaret Jazz and Post-Punk energy, evoking a steamy underworld of fuzz guitar, doghouse bass, gut-moaning sax and throbbing polyrhythms.
